NikonThe COOLSHOT 50i GII is Nikon’s 2025 laser rangefinder for golfers, succeeding the previous COOLSHOT 50i. The project focused on refining the exterior form and ergonomics while establishing a new design identity for the COOLSHOT series—balancing robustness with sleek sophistication.
In addition to the main device, I led the exterior design and buckle mechanism development of the carrying case, ensuring a cohesive visual language and seamless integration across the product system.

By minimizing excessive contours and ornamentation, the design achieves a sleek yet robust form. It also embodies the new COOLSHOT series design identity, expressed through the side accent line and the front lens ring — both highlighted by the instantly recognizable Nikon yellow accent color.

The trapezoidal top form provides a secure hold and allows for intuitive operation. The thumb-contoured indentation enhances holding comfort and more stable measurement. Additionally, a line texture has been applied to the grip area to improve traction and convey a higher sense of quality.

The case design extends the main device’s visual identity through a checkered fabric pattern that echoes its magnetic components, reinforced by a unified CMF approach using consistent yellow and black tones across all elements.
I also proposed and led the development of a new plastic buckle mechanism designed for quick and intuitive access, validated through 3D-printed prototypes for rapid iteration. The final design was adopted, improving usability and overall system coherence.
